General Zaragoza Society
Welcome & Bienvenidos!
The General Zaragoza Society is a civic and cultural organization founded in 1944 as “La Sociedad Mutualista de Cuahtemoc” which then evolved into our current organization. It is dedicated to preserving the legacy of General Ignacio Zaragoza, the Goliad native who led the Mexican forces to victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla, which occurred on May 5, 1862.
We are an over 80 year old non-profit organization which stands to bring together diverse communities, emphasize service to others, and improve the educational opportunities of the youth in our community. Our society hosts annual Cinco de Mayo festivals, awards scholarships to graduating Seniors, and manages community service projects.
“A nation, however weak, which defends its liberty deserves the respect of the world.”
General Ignacio Zaragoza
